To many people, memories are proofs of our existence. Yet, humans’ mind is so unreliable and fragile. Photography is equally fragile and unreliable. They can be easily deleted, lost, damaged, and never recovered. This project is about memory and oblivion. Most importantly, it is about my grandfather who suffers from dementia. I carried out this project on his birthday, an event which was set to be forgotten by him. As an aspiring Buddhist, my grandpa's quagmire reminds me of this saying in The Diamond Sutra: “All things are like dream, illusion, bubble, shadow, and as dewdrop or lightning, they should be regarded as such.”
